About the film
Fujichrome 64T Type II was a studio specialist: Fujifilm rated its speed at a four-second exposure, not a fraction of a second.
It needed no reciprocity correction anywhere from 1/15 to 64 seconds, and Fujifilm advised against speeds from 1/4000 to 1/30 second. Balanced for 3100 K photographic tungsten lamps, it was meant for products, interiors, architecture and copies of paintings and illustrations. It carried the code RTPII and an RMS granularity of 10, in 135, 120, sheet film and QuickLoad. At the PMA show in February 2006 Fujifilm announced T64 Professional as its replacement, with rolls from March and sheets from April as Type II stock ran out. The successor borrowed the multi-colour-correcting layers first used in Astia 100F and Velvia 100F, and Fujifilm said its new couplers resisted fading far better than RTPII and cut the grain to RMS 7. Fujichrome 64T Type II is no longer in production.

The look
Fujichrome 64T Type II is a tungsten-balanced slide film rated EI 64 under 3100 K lamps, viewed directly as the positive. Fujifilm rated it at a four-second exposure, so it suits still subjects under hot lights rather than daylight.

Best for
- Product and still-life sets under hot lights
- Copying paintings and artwork
- Tungsten-lit interiors and dusk architecture

Science & sources

A tungsten colour reversal film with an exposure index of 64, rated at a 4-second exposure. Its positive image is shown directly, without a print stage.
Response curves and the evidence behind the model
Compare manufacturer data with the Ashigrain model on the same axes. This shows the calibration to source curves; comparison with photographed film is a separate question.
Characteristic response
RMS granularity
Density variation (σD) measured through a 48 µm aperture. Where the datasheet gives a single grain value, the response away from that point is an approximation.

Model limits
These images show the film model in use. Spectral response, lighting and viewing conditions include approximations, while halation, bloom, grain size, weave and flicker are not fully measured for each film. A real film capture also depends on development and print timing.
- Custom lighting spectra, camera metering and the spectral reflectance inferred from fixed-white-balance footage are modeled assumptions, not measurements of this film.
- The source specifies a 3200 K tungsten design light, not its spectrum. The modeled design-light spectrum and conversion-filter transmission are approximations.
- The source rates the film under 3100 K lamps at a 4-second exposure. The model uses a 3200 K design light, and the 4-second response stands for every exposure time.
- The source publishes one RMS granularity value, 10 × 10⁻³. The granularity response away from that level is modeled.
- The source prints one visual MTF curve, not separate red, green and blue curves. The model applies it to all three layers.
- The source prints separate cyan, magenta and yellow dye curves, each normalised to a peak of 1.0, and no neutral; the dye scales are fitted assumptions.
- No minimum-density spectrum is printed, so the reversal base-density spectrum is approximated. Reversal push and pull have no published curves and use a generic model.
- The source states a push/pull range of −½ to +1 stop without curves.
- The antihalation undercoat is printed, but halation strength, radius, layer weights and bloom are not measured.
- Under custom lights the fast rendering path follows the full spectral calculation less closely for this film than for most others.
- Individual dye amounts, layer interactions and push/pull behaviour are approximated where the datasheet provides no calibration. Grain size is assumed; published RMS granularity does not specify dye-cloud size.
- Characteristic response outside the published exposure range is an extrapolation, not measured film data.
- Veiling projection flare is not measured in the available sources. Its modeled contribution lifts screen blacks; it is not a measured projection-contrast claim.
